Class Description

Description

Since April 22, 2010, federal regulations require anyone performing renovation, repair, or painting work on residential structures built before 1978 to hold EPA-RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) certification. This requirement applies to general contractors, renovation specialists, electricians, plumbers, property managers, and painters.

Certified renovators must complete a four-hour refresher course every five years to maintain a valid certification. This refresher must be completed before the current certificate expires. If certification lapses, the renovator must retake the full eight-hour certification course rather than the shorter refresher option.

Requirements for Participation:

  • Participants must be over 22 years of age
  • At least four years of documented construction experience required to sit for the certification examination (California regulated requirement)
