Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this clay class:

Precious metal clay, or silver clay, is made of pure silver mixed with water and an organic binding agent. You can mold it into an endless number of shapes and designs. When fired, the binding agent burns off, resulting in original fine silver jewelry—99.9% pure.

Learn the basics of how to work with silver clay in our introductory workshop. This 3 hour session covers rolling, stamping, and other methods of creating texture and all the finishing techniques you will need. Pieces will be fired during the workshop, so you can wear your creation home that day.

The price of the workshop is $90 (cost of clay not included but can be purchased upon arrival at the studio). Precious metal clay can be purchased at La Mano ($50 for 15g and $75 for 25g packet).

What a beautiful place! I was definitely impressed! Today I took the Precious Metal Clay class with Amy and I loved it! Amy is very organized, and explains and demonstrates everything so well- there is no way you can't learn from her. She rocks!

The silver clay workshop with Amy was very informative and fun. I was able to make a beautiful pendant and have already received several compliments on it! Working with the silver clay was a new experience for me, and I would like to do it again. The class is the perfect length to make something nice. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn the basics of silver clay and make something nice on their very first try. Amy, the instructor, was really nice and took her time to answer questions and help each class member individually with his or her project.

Really interesting class--learned a lot and loved the end project I got to take home with me, as well as what everyone else in the class made. The teacher was great too, I'd definitely go back for another class and would recommend it to others.

The class was great and I walked away with a piece that I was really happy with, despite never having touched silver or polymer clay before! The 'making' portion was quite rushed, so I'd recommend to the instructor to spend less time on the upfront demo and more hands-on time helping students design and make their projects. All of us in the class were surprised by the materials fee. I thought I had read the description of the class more than once to see whether it was mentioned, and I missed it. I'm still glad I took the class, but I'd recommend making that a bit more prominent in the description and mentioning the cost so students don't feel misled.

I had such a wonderful time, the only downside was the time; this didn't stop me enjoying the class! The instructor was really sweet and patient. I hope to re-take the class, just have her guidance

Wish we had more time to actually work. by the time we got started and then demo was given, we had a short window to actually create any pieces. Workshop should be an hour longer

The classroom was unbearably hot which made it hard to focus. The list of suppliers was difficult to read because the ink was faded. Please use a better printer. Some of vendors on the list of suppliers was dated as one or two of the students provided updated information on them. It didn't help boost the instructors image. Finally, I might be asking for too much but a little pamphlet on the class would have been helpful so students could later refer to some of the points and tips being made during class. I thought Amy was very nice, helpful and thorough in her instruction and I would take another class with her and course horse. Thank you

It was a great class! I learned something I've wanted to do. I did feel a bit rushed to finish the project. And I also think I was very overcharged for materials. (I checked the price of silver clay online, and I have to say I found the same product & size for $30 less)
