What you'll learn in this japanese class:

ようこそ!(Yokoso!) Welcome! 

This class is meant for Japanese language beginners. Let’s watch Japanese anime and learn basic expressions, such as greetings, “This is X”, “What is this?” etc. in Japanese. Also, you will learn Japanese conversation from the anime and do role playing. 

Come and learn basic Japanese while watching anime! In this class you will build basic Japanese conversational skills to allow you to carry on a basic dialogue with others. From greetings and introductions to asking for information and shopping, this course will provide you with necessary skills that you can use in everyday life. Here are some examples of programs offered in the class. Let us know the anime that you want to feature in the class! 

In this class in New York City, you will watch scenes from anime such as: One Piece, Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin, Log Horizon, Working!!! -Wagnaria-, Hyouka, Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kami-kakushi), and the Rilakkuma Movie.


Beginner Level 1 Lesson Plan (10 Class Program)


Lesson #1
  • Objective: To greet people
  • Anime: Bleach Episode 1
  • Expressions: Greetings, Self-introduction, Classroom Japanese
  • Grammar: Subject wa Noun desu (Subject is Noun)
  • Extension: Write your name in Katakana (a phonetic Japanese character set)
Lesson #2
  • Objective: To state age, occupation, and who you are
  • Anime: One Piece Episode 62
  • Expressions: Talking about yourself
  • Grammar: Yes/No Question Sentences, Question Particle ka, Possession Particle no
  • Extension: Numbers 1-100, The Japanese characters Hiragana (a phonetic Japanese character
    set) (a-gyo, wa-gyo)
Lesson #3
  • Objective: To state who he/she is, to demonstrate how far or close things are
  • Anime: One Piece Episode 54
  • Expressions: Introduce someone to someone
  • Grammar: Demonstrative Words ko, so, a, do
  • Extension: Hiragana (ka-gyo, ga-gyo, ya-gyo)
Lesson #4
  • Objective: To describe things using adjectives
  • Anime: One Piece Episode 527
  • Expressions: Talking about the weather
  • Grammar: Adjectives
  • Extension: Hiragana (sa-gyo, za-gyo)
Lesson #5 "Culture Day"
  • Objective: To understand culture in Japan. Change the topic seasonally.
  • Anime: TBA.
  • Extension: Hiragana (ta-gyo, da-gyo)
Lesson #6
  • Objective: To address objects using demonstrative words, to describe things using adjectives, to
    be familiar with Japanese currency
  • Anime: Bleach Episode 128
  • Expressions: Shopping conversation
  • Grammar: Review of demonstrative words and adjectives
  • Extension: Japanese currency, Hiragana (na-gyo)
Lesson #7
  • Objective: To make a polite request using the expression kudasai, to make a question using a
    question word, to be familiar with Japanese food
  • Anime: Working!! Episode 1 and 3
  • Expressions: Restaurant conversation
  • Grammar: Polite request expression kudasai, Question Sentences with Question Words
  • Extension: Japanese table manner itadakimasu and gochisoosamadeshita, Hiragana (ha-gyo, bagyo,
    pa-gyo)
Lesson #8
  • Objective: To use verbs in the present tense, to build sentences using particles
  • Anime: One Piece Episode 527
  • Expressions: Talking about your daily life
  • Grammar: Verb conjugations, Direct Object Particle o, Particle for the place for the action de,
    Particle for the destination or direction ni
  • Extension: Hiragana (ma-gyo)
Lesson #9
  • Objective: To invite someone to do something together, to state what you see
  • Anime: Bleach Episode 15
  • Expressions: Invite someone to do something
  • Grammar: Something ga arimasu (There is/are something), Verb Negative Form + Question

  • Objective: To review materials in this course

Refund Policy

  • Cancellations made at least 3 business days in advance of the class will be honored with a refund less a 5% nonrefundable registration fee.
  • Students who cancel less than 3 business days prior to the start time of the class will receive a credit towards a future class.
  • No credit/refund if cancellation is made less than 1 business day before class time.

For Japanese Flower Arrangement: Ohara Ikebana Classes by HANADOJO:

  • The class sign up deadline is 3 business days before the class begins.
  • Cancellation after this period will NOT be refunded.

For Japanese Flower Arrangement: Misho Ikebana class:

  • The class sign up deadline is 2 business days before the class begins.
  • Cancellation after this period will NOT be refunded.

For Japanese Ink Painting (Sumi-e):

  • The class sign up deadline is 1 business day before the class begins.
  • Cancellation after this period will NOT be refunded.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
