Teaches at Brooklyn Brainery

Cooper O’Brien received his BFA in glass from RISD in 2012. After apprenticing with Karen LaMonte in the Czech Republic for 3 years he was granted the Emerging Artist in Residency at Pilchuck Glass School. He currently lives and works in New Jersey, fabricating projects at the non-profit WheatonArts and mold making for Hank Murta Adams. • A Window into Experimental Hot Casting and Glassblowing

Reviewed by Gary B. on 11/2/2017
Excellent 2-hour Introduction to larger-scale casting. First, a long narrow piece was cast with glass poured by ladle directly from the kiln, then twisted into a pretzel shape. This was just a demo piece, not annealed properly, and of course did not survive. Next, two pieces were made of blown glass which were inserted into molds of Presidents Reagan and Trump. The Reagan mold failed, but the Trump mold was reinforced and this piece came out OK. Program finished with a 20-minute slide presentation. Overall good program. Instructors were knowledgeable, passionate about their work, and happy to answer questions.
