Marla is an international photographer, artist and poet who has traveled extensively documenting the human condition for over 20 years. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised and educated in Canada, she currently resides in New York. Marla Mossman is an international photographer, artist and poet who has traveled extensively documenting the human condition. As a photographer and the founder and director of the non-profit peace caravan project, Marla moss man has traveled alone from Jerusalem, Israel to Xi'an, china by car, foot, horse, mule and camel to document places of historical and religious significance along the silk road. Her work explores the silk road's heritage, spirituality and her own connection to Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. This quest has taken Mossman on six solo expeditions through the region. Most recently returning to china circling the remote Taklamakan desert. In 2008 she visited the middle east where she departed from turkey traveling overland through Syria and Jordan to Israel documenting the Mediterranean terminus of the ancient trade routes and desert origins of the three great religions. In 2005 she traveled to Afghanistan working with the ministers from the department of transportation and education in Kabul. She was the foreigner and woman to visit Waras, a remote part of central Afghanistan on horseback, with donkey and mules. Marla has hiked and backpacked to an altitude of 18,000 ft in the Himalayas to obtain her photographs. She has traveled extensively in Europe and the UK, Peru, Turkey, Thailand, Nepal and Indonesia and backpacked the Inca trail and the high sierras.
