Nick Mockoviak

Teaches at south avenue arts

Nick Mockoviak is an elementary art teacher and illustrator. He has taught many kids and teen art classes including Manga, Cartooning, Creating Comic Books, and Basic Drawing. His work has been featured in galleries at the Arts Guild of New Jersey, Middlesex County College, and Kean University. Nick served as art director, cover and contributing artist on the graphic novel HVZA. In addition, his artwork was featured in an episode of TLC hit show "Cake Boss" that highlighted the Jersey Devil. Nick is a member of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

Nick works in a host of mediums and styles. Among his favorite mediums are watercolor, markers, graphite, colored pencils, ink, and acrylic paint. His favorite subject matters are birds, classic Universal monsters, kaiju (giant monsters), comic book characters and other pop culture icons, and Zen-inspired doodles.

His inspirations are many and change all the time (as he is still a student at heart). His biggest influences and personal favorite artists are Jim Davis, Basil Gogos, Frank Cho, Jason Edmiston, Gustave Dore, Brian "Pushead" Schroeder, J.J. Audubon, Arthur Adams, James Gurney, Bill Watterson, and Brian Stelfreeze.

Nick lives in central New Jersey with his wife Karen and dog Lilly.
