Susan Kouguell

Teaches at Pratt Institute

Susan Kouguell is a writer and filmmaker. Her award-winning short films are in the Museum of Modern Art permanent collection and archives, and were included in the Whitney Museum Biennial. 

Screenings in over 50 international festivals and museums include the Centre Pompidou Beaubourg Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum. Fellowships and grants include: Whitney Independent Study Program (ISP) fellow, MacDowell Colony fellow, Pen Grant, The Edward Albee Foundation screenwriting fellow, Jerome Foundation production grant, New York Foundation for the Arts film fellowship, Art Matters Inc. screenwriting fellowship, Cummington Community for the Arts screenwriting fellow, Creative Artists Public Service (CAPS) film production grant, Brooklyn Arts & Cultural Association: 5 film production grants, and Artist’s Space Exhibition Funding Grant. 

Susan wrote texts for composer Alvin Singleton, including the choral work “PRAISEMAKER” (featured on the “Singing Rooms” CD) and for artist Annebarbe Kau’s sound piece “Kopfstand,” which was on exhibit in Bonn, Germany. Susan teaches screenwriting at Purchase College, SUNY, and is a visiting lecturer at Pratt Institute. A contributing writer for Script Magazine, Susan serves as chairperson of her screenplay consulting company: Su-City Pictures East, LLC.
