This class was really good and I really liked the Instructor. Oddly when we Registered we thought we were registering for Mr. Garfield's class but ended up being Pete and we were pleased! When we register for Excel #2 we hope that we get Pete again and not by accident this time : )

Great class-- I took this class to learn some of the basics that I never learned; which was consequently slowing me down on the advanced functions I execute daily.
Perfect for beginners and self taught users.

Garfield is a great teacher. We covered a lot in the class. I love that you can retake it again and that there is a video to refer to.

I thought the instructor was very knowledgeable. The class was a bit slow paced for me and we spent a lot of time reviewing things I thought should have been in a beginners corse.

Garfield is a great teacher, in that he makes an effort to answer any and all questions that the students may have. He's knowledgeable, engaging, and injects humor into the lessons, and the material he works with is realistic in a business setting. The exercises also do a good job of testing comprehension.
The only complaint I have is that the harder parts of the class come too far into the second half of the class, which means that we rushed through some important aspects of Excel (pivot tables, Countifs, etc.). If you use Excel regularly and this is simply a brush up, then you'll have no problem with this pace. If you're looking to expand your skills or you're returning to the application after not having used it in awhile, then you might struggle during the second half. Luckily, NYIM allows for a free repeat of the class within a year, something I plan to take advantage of.
Other than that, I'm happy that I took the course, and I'll probably try for the advanced class once I feel completely comfortable with what I've learned up to that point.
-
It was really helpful. I wish it were 3 days since the last half of the 2nd day we basically rushed through what was planned for the course since we didn't have time.

Michael followed the syllabus well and class was knowledgeable, which helped with the fast pace we set throughout the day. Thanks Michael for a job well done.

Garfield is great!

They had me the minute I heard "free retake". I had a really good experience, got a lot out of the class.
Garfield was extremely knowledgable in Excel. He's a really good teacher, very patient, and moved through the instruction at a nice pace.
-
great class. pace at times can be a little too fast. (a few more pauses would help)

-
Garfield is a great teacher, definitely recommend.
-
Fantastic class!
-
trying to cram too much into too few hours. should be 4 nights or two days.
-
It was a lot of fun, and the way it was taught really helped me relate the topics to how they would be useful in my day to day at work
-

I enjoyed the class, and the instructor was excellent, as well. The only issue was running out of time, which made us rushing through the course material towards the end of the day. I would recommend this place to others who are very beginners and have no knowledge of Excel and would like to master the basics.
-
Good Instructor. He was good at teaching and answers all questions. Very knowledgeable

The class was very helpful. It refreshed my Excel knowledge.
But for me it was a little difficult to catch everything because course was only 3 hours without any brake.
I think this class need to last at least 5 hours.
Anyway I have good impression and would like to take a future classes on Excel.
Thank you very much !

Garfield is a great teacher. Really learned a lot
-
Great Training and instructor. Minor suggestion would be to have more hands-on training by students.

Great teacher, knowledgeable, clear, and patient

Great class! Garfield is an excellent teacher!!!

This class was excellent! Garfield was a fantastic teacher. Very detailed and thorough. He made the day engaging and interesting. I would urge anyone considering taking classes at NYIM to jump right in.

Very informative!

Very helpful review and Garfield is very patient and extensive with teaching the material. The pacing could be faster since the earlier topics were at times review and the harder topics seemed rush due to time.

Among all the excel classes I have taken, this is by far the worst.
The course can be more adeptly described as "Why Never Use VBA".
Course material was ill-prepared, instructor was not helpful and classroom was in a bad set-up. Highly recommend against taking it as it was a total waste of my money and time.
Here is a full description of why the course was bad:
1). Class hour was shortened significantly
For a 10 - 5 schedule, class officially started at 10:40am and ended at 3:45pm. This is including an one hour lunch break. We had a total of 4 loose hours instead of 6.
We started late not only because some students were late, but also because we had to go around the classroom to explain why we were there....I just don't see why this was useful at all as we were just working with our own computer...
2). Instructor was ill-prepared and bad at teaching
For a good hour the instructor was sitting in the back, reading the displayed code line by line in a surprising tone as if it was his first time seeing it. Then he went on to conduct a project on his own without explaining any of it, or attempt to get anyone in the class to follow. In fact, no one was trying to follow. We thought he will strop at some point to explain what he was doing, but he didn't.
He was also repeating the same material over and over again instead of giving us useful new information. For example we went through the same code about how to get to the bottom of the table at least 5 times.
Lastly, he was a soft and slow talker. Think about a full day in a dim-lit computer room and how that may help.
3). Class material was ill-prepared
For a six hour course the teaching manual was only 15 pages written in broken language. The instructions were missing key steps from the first project. Then we just got completely lost till the end. None of the writing was helpful or even fully related to the material we were going over.
4). Uncomfortable working environment
Class took place in a extremely cold, dark computer room where we were each assigned an old desktop. It was not comfortable at all to spend a full day there.

A great course to get a quick learning of all the options with Excel. I feel like I'll be able to use the program at work now and pick it up really quickly.

the class description is kind of misleading. You don't become a specialist in a one day class. the outlook specialist class is for those who have already been using it for about six months. That was not the case for me. Outlook isn't difficult, I just have not been using It.
The instructor is good but he goes a bit fast. He worked on a computer in the back of the room and reflected the screen on a projector. this was fine but the dim lights needed to be more dim so that I could see better. the room was hot, the fan was noisy, and the street noise was distracting.
We did not use the manual in the class, the downloaded or the printed version. I think their intention is to show you a little bit of everything and then send you home to practice. I would have liked the class to have been two or even three days long so it could really sink in and I would be willing to pay the price. There were only three people in the class; good, but is this class not popular?

Garfield is highly knowledgeable and very patient. We covered a lot of material and the course was very educational.

Chris was a great VBA teacher. I highly recommend what he brings to the table in the form of actual experience and project in his classes.
