Description

Welcome to M Avery Designs. If you’re looking to learn how to Sew, Craft or just plain learn how to make cool stuff, you’re SEW in the right place!

We offer classes for Adults and Kids at all skill levels taught in our spacious and comfortable studio in the Monroe Center in Hoboken, NJ.

A little history - M. Avery Designs was created in a railroad apartment in Hoboken NJ in the year 1999 by Megan Avery, owner & designer. After realizing that corporate America just wasn’t for her, her entrepreneurial spirit took over and she started making handmade handbags & her business was created. Soon after, she began selling her creations both online and at local craft fairs in the area.

In 2003, M Avery Designs moved out of the railroad apartment on Adams Street and into our first official location in the Monroe Center for the Arts. The space was initially used for studio space to make our bags, but soon we realized how many people out there were interested in learning how to make their own bags. We started doing Make your Own Handbag Workshops to fill the demand for all the crafty ladies we encountered.

Since then, we’ve added sewing & crafting classes for just about every interest and skill level. We absolutely love teaching other people how to sew and get crafty!

This was a great class as intro to using a sewing machine. By the end we'd made pin cushions and I felt very confident to use my machine at home and thread the machine. Nancy was a great teacher!

This was my second class at M. Avery Designs, and it was awesome! I learned practical skills like how to hem in general, hem jeans, blind hem, replacing buttons and zippers, and patching holes. Megan was a wonderful teacher, and gave me extra help when something was unclear or I forgot something from the previous class. She was extremely patient. During the last two class we put our skills to use by bringing in items we wanted to alter/mend. I was able to take in the armpit area of two dresses, so that the area would not longer show my bra. I also turned a long sleeve flannel into a short sleeve one, and altered an over-sized childhood t-shirt into something I can actually wear. I wish I had learned to sew sooner, but so glad I found M. Avery Designs when I did. I highly suggest the school, this specific class, and will likely take another course to further my sewing skills. Thanks so much Megan!

I have taken sewing classes before where I went to class and used their machines, then I went home and was intimidated by my own machine being different. By taking my machine to this class and really learning it, I am now so confident that I have started a project immediately at home. The instructor's pace was great for beginner level. Her information was clearly understood and her advanced preparation made the process very organized. Thank you.

This was a great course, and the small class size made it easy to connect with the other students. Rachael is a wonderful and patient instructor, who spent quality time with each of us and her directions were very easy to follow. I didn't know there was so much math involved (which I hate) but I left the class feeling like I can take my craft to the next level. I felt like the information I received more than outweighed the cost. I can't wait to sign up for another class.

I loved the class. Ellen, the instructor, was patient and kind. She was able to adapt her teaching to each of us individually as we all had different levels of experience with sewing. I look forward to another class with MAvery Studios again.

The class was great, in fact the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that I think it should be 3 hours instead of 2 so you have more time to practice.
