Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this leather class:

Handcrafting leather sandals is a traditional way of shoemaking that has been practiced for centuries all around the world. Come learn how to do this special craft yourself! Join Stace Fulwiler at King’s Roost in Silverlake for an afternoon of sandal making. No experience is necessary, Stace will provide all the tools & supplies.

In this workshop you will learn to make your own custom pair of sandals made from sturdy leather soles, 0.5” stacked leather heels and supple leather straps and insoles. Together we will explore the sandal-making process, from cutting the straps to fitting them to your own feet. Over the course of making your sandals, you will also learn the basics of leather crafting and you will become familiar with the essential tools and supplies of shoemaking.

You will choose from four different sandal design that are simple and easy for beginners to master: the toe ring sandal (my personal favorite), the two strap slide sandal, the grecian sandal, and the ankle-buckle sandal. I’ll bring four different leather colors for you to choose from: black, espresso, caramel, and natural vegetable tanned leather.

At the end of the evening I’ll take your sandals to my studio to sand down the edges, refining the fit and finishing the edges. Your sandals will be ready to pick up the following day at The King’s Roost.

What to bring:

Working hands and outfits! We will be cutting, kneeling, bending and standing during the sandal making process so wear something comfortable. It’s best to wear sandals as we will be getting in and out of shoes during the fitting process.

Workshop Fee includes everything you need to create your very own pair of handmade sandals. All tools, leather, patterns, supplies, and materials will be provided.

Take Away:

Handmade sandals (ready to pick up the following day); made with a round-toe leather sole, leather heels and leather uppers. You’ll also take home an outline of the sandal making process that includes a list of local leather and shoe supply resources, should you wish to continue sandalmaking after the workshop.

Refund Policy

Cancellations made at least 2 business days in advance of the class will be honored with a full refund less 5% cancellation fee. No refund after that.

Question from karen
Does the teacher also accommodate wishes for a vegan sandal? thanks, Karen
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Karen! Here's the answer from the instructor, "Yes there is the option to make vegan sandals, they would have a foam/rubber sole. I would have to go shopping for vegan leather, so no guarantees on color selection. I would most likely look for something neutral, like black or brown. Alternatively, the student could bring their own material to the workshop." Hope this helps.
Answer from karen
