Reviews for Japanese Cooking Classes in Los Angeles

Japanese Cooking Classes in Los Angeles are rated 4.7 stars based on 176 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Purchased this class for my partner and I for his birthday. Was such a fun and professional experience! Chef Cregg made the room feel comfortable and low stakes, even though sushi feels like a food that could be really tricky to make at home. He also made the class educational, without coming close to the territory of ever feeling boring at all. Ingredients were fresh and the playlist was great! Would definitely recommend.
  • Chef Vic was awesome! Super knowledgeable and genuinely cared about making the experience great. We tried his sushi-making class, and it did not disappoint. He explained everything in a way that was easy to follow and made sure everyone was having a good time. Even when I totally messed up on my first try, he didn’t make me feel bad—he just guided me through my second roll and made it fun. On top of that, the whole group was super fun and cool, and we ended up making new friends along the way. It was such a great experience and an all-around amazing time. We’re already looking forward to trying his Pad Thai and dumpling-making class next. Highly recommend!
  • An amazing experience and the instructor was very helpful and fun to work with. I will definitely be taking his course again. I liked that the class was intimate so we could all interact with each other and make friends. I appreciate being able to eat sushi throughout the day and it was convenient to step into the restaurant next door to purchase alcohol
  • I really enjoyed the class. The explanation was clear, the chef clearly knew what they were doing and about the what was named for the food. Though I would have used different ingredients because of food preferences but overall it was fun.
  • Great class. Even though we had a very large class Bryan was very clear, patient, teaching with such simplicity & clarity. I’m excited to sign up for part #2. Thank you!
  • It was awesome. Totally demystified sushi for my partner and I, we now feel like we could make sushi at home! The instructor was great, very clear and helpful. And we really enjoyed eating everything we made at the end of the class! Overall a wonderful experience.

  • Cooking & Tasting Tour at Japanese Markets

    Great!
  • Nigiri Sushi: Edo Mae Style

This was such a fun class, I've always thought that making sushi was something that only trained chefs could do, but this class showed me that I can make pretty passable amateur sushi at home. We covered butchering a fish, various cuts of the meat, and various ways to prepare it, as well as making different types of sushi. The instructor Yoko is warm and you can tell she has a passion for what she's teaching. This is my second class with her and both experiences have been very good.
  • Ramen Run Down: Tonkotsu

Yoko really gave us a new appreciation for ramen; the amount of work, delicacy and precision required to create the perfect noodle, base and protein. It was one of the best ramens we’ve ever had and look forward to seeing Yoko again.
  • Miso Making Party

Yoko makes making miso look so easy. I can't wait to try my miso (in about a year) and I look forward to making miso at home! The miso balls we made and took home are a cute and delicious idea. The highlight of the class was the miso tasting. Thanks for a fun class!
  • Chef Eric was fun, friendly, and informative. The class was very interactive and hands on (literally). Would enjoy taking another class instructed by chef Eric. My boyfriend and I had a great time!
  • Simple Tasty, Healthy @ Home Sushi

Yoko is a great teacher. We had a lot of fun learning to make sushi. The location was great and the environment was laid back. It was nice to sit and eat all together with the class at the end.
  • Sushi Sushi Sushi - Let's Roll!

    Karly our instructor was wonderful!
  • Japanese Bento Box:Your Next PICNIC Idea

A very informative class with an easy going approach. It was a lot of fun and we made many dishes that I could easily make again at home. Participants should have some basic knowledge of cooking in general. The only downside was that because of the size (6), I didn't get to participate in preparing every part of the dish. Highly recommended!
  • Hipcooks Dreams of Sushi

Carrie was wonderful! We learned a lot. Very artistic cookie. We are looking forward to our next class. Indian cooking?
  • Sushi Workshop

Great instructor - I'm fortunate that she teaches there. She keeps the class interesting and engaging with lots of slicing and dicing.

  • Hipcooks Dreams of Sushi

  • Turning Japanese

Tons of great food! Angie was knowledgeable and helpful.
  • Ramen Run Down: Tonkotsu

I loved the class. The teaching is great and I learned a lot. We made the noodles, broth and all of the garnish. The Pork Belly Garnish was outstanding. At the end we all sat down to enjoy the food. The class size is small which allows the teacher to work with each one of us. This is my second class at Food Story. I will be signing up for another one soon. William
