In this 16-session class, we will explore wheel throwing, handbuilding, and glazing techniques.
Beginners will start with a few sessions of handbuilding to develop confidence working with clay, then move on to wheel throwing and glazing, and may be surprised to learn how much beautiful, functional work can be done through handbuilding. Anything thrown on the wheel can be handbuilt!
Demos will take place at the beginning of almost every class.
Handbuilding demos will include:
Students are welcome to spend as much time as they like on their favorite technique. Functional and sculptural skills will be developed in both throwing and handbuilding.
Intermediate students are welcome to request more specific demos once the basics of the course have been covered.
