BKC is a photo, video and creative education center located in the heart of Dumbo, Brooklyn. Our basic philosophy is simple: cut the crap. We’re founded upon the idea of learning by doing, whether it's hands-on classes in studio lighting, a workshop on shooting HD Video for Youtube, unleashing the potential of Lightroom or just how to use your DSLR, our smart and simple approach and awesome teachers will help you learn something new, build on your creativity, and expand your goals.
The BKC team of experienced educators, artists, curators and creative professionals is totally dedicated to providing you with smart, no-nonsense instruction and creating an encouraging environment for everyday New Yorkers to learn a skill, confidently progress in their practice, or unearth a hidden talent. We keep classes at a price you can afford, and offer plenty of nights and weekend sessions for working folks.
Good amount of info, but it really is a crash course. 3 hours is not enough time to practice all of the concepts they discuss. Didn’t love the instructor.. he wasn’t very engaging and when I went up to him after to ask him a question about my camera, he just looked annoyed, and gave me as quick a response to get me out the door. Was a good class for what I paid, but probably won’t be back anytime soon.
It was a really fulfilling and informative class. The amount of time was just the right length to get the hang of basic film developing, and get your money's worth. I'll definitely be back soon!
Teacher was great - engaging and knowledgeable. Would have been great to have more of an opportunity for hands on practice/coaching with different techniques.
Very interesting class on photo composition. I definitely appreciated the slides and the discussions as we examined some examples of paintings and photos.. Interesting to use art examples and not just photos to illustrate the different points. It helped that the instructor had art theory background. My only critique/suggestion would be that I thought instructor would also accompany us during the picture taking exercise.. but then again.. it still works as we're trusted to go on our own and discover and then we discuss in length back in the classroom.. which was done here.. I would definitely recommend the class to anyone wanting to learn theory behind photo composition.. *One question.. is it possible to get copy of the power point presentation from the class? I was jotting down some of the artist names and paintings but def missed some. would like to have that so I can look up online.. Thx
Sally is remarkable in her skills (decade + of photography experience and education), her teaching abilities (excellent slides, examples, real world situations, and practice), and her humor (a bonus). This class was picture perfect.
The instructor was really good and knowledgeable. But I didn't feel that I really knew my camera THAT much more than I did before. Also the space wasn't great. Too small, hot, and hard to find. I enjoyed the class and will definitely take another one. I was just hoping for more.
Very thorough and clear intro to using a digital camera. Came away with lots of new approaches to shooting!
Interesting class. Lots of engagement, and great feedback from the assignments on the day.
My instructor was awesome!!! Extremely knowledgable and passionate about photography Learned a lot
Like so many people, I have wanted to get into photography and off of "full auto" mode for so long, but have always found excuses to put it off for another day. This class was exactly the jump start I needed. Even though everything we learned can be summed up on one sheet of paper, the class developed those fundamental concepts very well so that they now feel intuitive. I think achieving the same level of intuition for the things we learned would have taken me twice as long if I had tried to teach myself using books or online sources (and, at the rate I was going, probably spread out over five years!). The class was also very fairly priced. After putting in some practice myself, I definitely plan to enroll in another class with this company.
