N.Y. Cake & Baking Distributor first opened its doors known as the Chocolate Gallery more than 25 years ago. It was founded by Joan Mansour renowned cake decorator and gold medal award winner by the Societe Culinaire Philantropique. She not only was awarded National teacher of the year, regional teacher of the year and award for most students taught. She was also inducted into the Wilton Hall of Fame.
Since, customers asked repeatedly for a shop to purchase supplies to bake and decorate their cakes, she decided to emphasize more on baking products and we thereby became known as New York Cake and Baking Distributor. We have a 5,000 square foot store carrying everything you need. We became known as the “one stop shop” for all your baking needs as well as a baker’s paradise.
Joan opened up a school of cake decorating where she taught some of the most renowned cake decorators today in Manhattan. We were published in numerous magazines including Family Circle, Womens Day, and Martha Stewart Living as a source for purchasing cookie cutters, cake pans, gum paste cutters and tools, sanding colored sugars, silver and gold
We are a wholesaler as well as retailer to all those who are interested in baking & decorating. Our flagship store is located in the Chelsea Area of Manhattan. We carry the full line of tools from the most basic to the hardest to find items. We enjoy serving the occasional baker to the most professional.
We have been rated in ZAGAT where it honors the businesses featured in America’s most prestigious Dining & Shopping Guide of 2009/10. New York Cake & Baking Distributor was quoted as “This flatiron shop stocks “everything for the sweet kitchen” from cake decorating supplies like food coloring, gum paste and sprinkles to cookie cutters, pans “ in any shape”, doilies and “ beautiful dragees” and decorations that “ pique the imagination” of “amateurs” and “professionals “ alike.
The New York Press has awarded New York Cake & Baking Distributors as the “Best place to get huge blocks of Bittersweet Valhrona Chocolate” in its Best of Manhattan 2009. Joan's two daughters, Lisa Mansour and Jenny Kash, have taken managerial control over Nycake with much continued success. Lisa is also lead instructor for Nycake Academy and Jenny has extended NYCAKE to the internet with online and wholesale services.

Class was great...Instructor was amazing and very helpful !!! The end results a beautiful basket weave flower cake : ) looking forward to the next class.
I would love to have discussed putting icing on the cake and if you use the turntable to ice the cake how do you get the cake off the turntable on to my cake platter ..
The class was great! Very informative Joan did amazing job on answering all our questions. I learn some great tips on cake popsicles.
The class was a lot of fun! The setup allows you to have your own work station in a professional baking kitchen, so you feel like a pro from the start. The instructor, John, demonstrated each step clearly and carefully, and came around to check individual work and offer feedback and assistance. The best part was getting to decorate your own mini cake during the later part of the class and then take it home. The only part that I didn't love was that some of the other students were a bit competitive and made it a point to watch what everyone else was doing and to critique it. Overall, it was very enjoyable and I'd definitely take another class again!
Great class !!! Great instructor !!! I am looking forward to taking more classes at NyCake !!!
The instructor John is so patient and makes sure you understand every step. NY Cake is a great place to take a class. Would highly recommend it!
I enjoyed the class very much . The instructor John was amazing very hospitable and he was attentive and very patient and professional throughout the entire class . I will definitely come back for another class. Highly recommended!
Loved it but parents should not put their young children in it. It is a three hour intensive class and they have the attention span of adhd mice. The class was really good though and you get 10% off store purchases!
The class itself was enjoyable at a very basic level. to give you an idea of how beginner it was: we spent about 15 minutes going over how to properly put the icing coupler into the icing bag. this is not an exaggeration. I understand everyone is at a different level, however that aside, I didn't feel it was worth the high price based on the skills that were outlined in the course description.. The course description specifically stated that we would "cover tools and piping skills including; shells, stars, zig-zags, rosettes, writing, drop flowers and leaves. Each student will get 2 layers of cake to work with, buttercream and a choice of delicious fillings." Unfortunately of the (9) skills advertised in the course description, we only covered frosting, shells, and stars.. the course did not include learning how to fill a cake, pipe zig zags, rosettes, writing, drop flowers or choice of filling. I specifically chose this class because it said we would be covering flowers and rosettes. we did not cover this at all. I contacted Course Horse and they offered me a 20% coupon for a future class. I don't really think that makes up for learning less than half of what was promised on the website. I would recommend skipping this course unless you are only looking for a 'just for fun' beginner type class to learn very, very basic skills.
I loved the instructor! He was so knowledgeable and fun! I am planning on signing up for another class with him.
