What you'll learn in this wine and cheese class:

In this fun BYOB tasting, you'll be living La Dolce Vida as you learn to enjoy wine and cheese like a pro.

  • We will begin with two great Italian wines, a white Verdicchio and a red Nero d'Avola, learning how to appreciate and describe each wine's subtle flavors and aromas like a sommelier.
  • We'll discuss how history has shaped and influenced Italy's rich wine and food culture, the area of Italy each wine is from, how the grapes are grown, and how the wine is produced, bottled, and aged.
  • Next, we'll look at the cheese - two dramatically different, delicious choices. You'll learn about how cheese is made, aged, and the milk that goes into it, followed by a guided aroma and flavor tasting experience. Then, we will compare and contrast the wine with the cheese, exploring how wine and food pairings work (or not!)
  • You'll finish with a new understanding of wine and cheese, how to pair them, how to describe what you are tasting, and how to choose an excellent bottle of wine for your next party.

This is a virtual Bring-Your-Own Wine and Cheese workshop. We'll send recommendations for wine and cheese, along with other pairing suggestions.

Italy: North to South

at NYC Wine Company -

Without question, Italy provides a staggering percentage of the world's most distinctive and interesting wines. In addition, the sheer breadth of styles they produce is equally impressive. From the steely, minerally whites of the Tre Venezie and Val d'Aosta to the dark, powerful reds of Sicily and Campania, this country is a formidable force in...

Wine 101

at NYC Wine Company -

Our Wine 101 is not only one of the best classes we offer, it's also my favorite one to teach. Yes, we talk fundamentals, but more than just a rote review of grapes and regions, our goal is to make wine your friend. In this class, you'll become familiar with what you like, but also why you like it.  In turn, you'll know what questions to ask,...
